New Balance’s H710

"We’ve seen way too many hiking-inspired sneakers as of late, but New Balance’s H710 actually has a strong history as it’s based on the Rainier hiking shoe made for veteran mountaineer, Lou Whittaker.

The story goes that Whittaker – who co-founded Rainier Mountaineering Guide Service – injured his toe and ended up trying a lightweight pair of New Balance tennis shoes for hiking.

He found it so comfortable that he suggested that a lug sole be added – and thus the New Balance Rainier was born."
